  • First annual Global Game Jam. The Global Game Jam (GGJ), the first of its kind, takes place in the same 48 hours all over the world! starting at 5:00pm Friday, January 30, 2009 through 5:00pm Sunday, February 1, 2009, (all times local). The Pittsburgh chapter of the IGDA partnered with the Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) to provide a local venue for this game jam! Your team can choose to develop for the pc, iPhone, or any platform.

The Carnegie Library in Braddock is the first library built in America by Pittsburgh über-philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. In homage to the unix text-editor, we'll be refering to this DevHouse 6 by roman-numerals: Vi.

      The Differential Generator is a technological advancement that improves energy extraction from natural resources. The prototype was designed and built in the Southside of Pittsburgh.

      Quasi is an interactive animatronic character developed by Interbots, aspin-off company out of Carnegie Mellon's Entertainment Technology Center.Designed with emotional expression in mind, Quasi’s software allows him to interact with peopleentirely on his own or with the help of a human operator. Quasi was built in Pittsburgh while the members ofInterbots were attending graduate school at Carnegie Mellon’s Entertainment Technology Center.

The Pittsburgh Innovates contest sponsored by the Greater Oakland Keystone Innovation Zone allows people to show off their ideas that have a Pittsburgh connection. We will talk about the innovation economy here in Pittsburgh and showcase the best entries. Three judges from the Pittsburgh Innovates competition will be on a panel to talk about the finalists. The audience will be encouraged to ask the panelists questions and vote for their favorite of the finalists. Then we will wrap things ups by awarding $20,000 to the Judges’ award winner, $10,000 to the Community Choice award winner, and $1,000 to the Audience favorite.     Join regional professionals for the first conference in the Pittsburgh area to address the current and future workforce shortage within science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers. Hear from keynote speaker Dr. Mae Jemison, a model for the importance of STEM careers. Jemison earned the distinction of becoming the first African-American woman to enter space when she served as a mission specialist aboard the Shuttle Endeavor in 1992. Breakout sessions provide employers with information on existing Pittsburgh STEM programs and how their companies can get involved. Drive regional growth during working sessions to create action plans to help educators inspire students to pursue STEM careers.
